Fix Text in AI Images: Re-edit, Regenerate, or Typeset Separately?

Autor:

Use a real poster revision to check dates, capacity, and unchanged wording. Choose a repair method by how much text and artwork must remain fixed.

A poster sheet with a picture and a lime replacement strip lifting at one corner

The poster looks ready, but the date is wrong. The repair is not complete when the new date looks right: the time, place, booking limit, and contact address must still match the approved copy.

Treat that copy as a separate source of truth. Then choose how to repair the image: regenerate the whole poster, edit specific text, or keep the artwork and place editable text over a text-free design. The amount you need to preserve determines which approach is worth trying.

A poster that needs two updated fields

This fictional English repair-workshop poster was generated with the built-in image tool on October 13, 2026. The first version correctly reproduced the supplied wording. We did not observe a spelling failure in that run. The task below is an intentional change to approved event details, not an example of a model inventing the wrong date.

Generated English workshop poster showing October 24, 2026 and a booking limit of 12 places

For the revision, the fictional organizer moves the event to October 31 and reduces capacity to 10. The complete approved copy is now:

COMMUNITY REPAIR WORKSHOP
Bring one small household item
Saturday, October 31, 2026
14:00–16:00
Riverside Community Room
Booking required: 10 places
No mains-powered repairs
Contact: repair@example.org

The address is a practice address, not a real booking contact. We retained English in both language versions of this article because the worked deliverable is an English poster.

We supplied the first image to the editor and asked it to replace only the date and booking-limit lines, while preserving all other wording and the composition. The resulting image is:

Edited English workshop poster showing October 31, 2026 and 10 places, with the other event wording retained

Visual review at full size found both requested changes and retained the other six text fields. That is the observed result of one edit. It does not establish that every text edit will preserve the artwork or produce correct characters.

Why a good-looking image still needs a text check

Text embedded in a generated picture is part of the rendered image, rather than a normal editable text field in a document. A response saying “corrected” does not prove that the saved pixels contain the approved spelling. OpenAI's image documentation notes remaining limitations in precise text placement and clarity. That is a documented limit, not a claim that our first poster failed.

Keep the approved wording outside the image. Read the export against it line by line, including digits, punctuation, contact details, and exclusions. An OCR pass can help locate differences, but OCR is another interpretation of the image; confirm questionable characters visually.

Choose the repair by what must stay fixed

For a targeted edit, name both the old and new text. Include the unchanged fields that would cause a practical error if altered. In this example, “No mains-powered repairs” matters as much as the date; losing it changes what the event promises.

Regeneration may be reasonable early in a design, but replacing the whole image can also change its illustration and arrangement. Separate typesetting gives direct control over spelling and later updates; it still requires choosing readable placement and checking that the final export contains the right words. These are workflow choices, not measured quality rankings from this two-image example.

Inspect the file you will actually share

For this poster, check the title and subtitle, date and weekday, time, venue, capacity, exclusion, and contact address. Both October 24 and October 31, 2026 are Saturdays; changing a date to a different weekday would require changing that word too.

View the exported image at full size and at its intended display size. If a line is technically correct but too small to read in the sharing channel, revise the layout. Keep the approved copy and original image so another edit can be checked against the same source.

When repeated edits keep changing important words, switch to separate typesetting rather than treating each new generation as final. The useful completion condition is an actual readable export whose full text matches the approved copy, with no lost restriction or invented contact detail.
